This Privacy Policy explains how The Simple Spoon LLC (“The Simple Spoon,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and protects personal information. It covers our customer website, thesimplespoon.com; our delivery text messages; and The Simple Spoon Team, an internal app used only by our staff.

Delivery text messages (SMS)

Program name: The Simple Spoon Delivery Alerts.

If you check the delivery-text box when you sign up at thesimplespoon.com/signup.html, or later in your member account, we text the mobile number you gave us on each of your delivery days, when your driver is on the way, with an estimated arrival time. These are transactional notifications about your own delivery. We do not send marketing or promotional messages through this program.

• Consent is optional and is not a condition of purchase. The box is unchecked by default, and you can order and receive meals without checking it. We record whether and when you gave consent.
• Message frequency: one message per scheduled delivery, about one message per week. You receive no messages in weeks with no delivery.
• Message and data rates may apply, as set by your mobile carrier.
• To stop: reply STOP to any message. You will receive one confirmation and no further messages. Reply START to resume.
• For help: reply HELP, or email hello@thesimplespoon.com.
• Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties. Your mobile number is used only by The Simple Spoon to send the delivery notifications described above and to contact you about your delivery. Our delivery staff can see it so they can reach you at your door. Twilio, our messaging provider, transmits the messages on our behalf.

Information we collect

From customers (via the website): name, contact details including mobile phone number, delivery address, dietary preferences and allergies, order history, whether and when you consented to delivery text messages, and payment information processed by Stripe (we do not store full card numbers).

From employees (via the staff app and onboarding):

• Contact & identity: name, email, phone number, home address, date of birth, emergency contact.
• Tax & payroll: Social Security Number and tax filing details, provided during onboarding to meet legal payroll and tax requirements.
• Financial (direct deposit): bank account details for payroll, collected securely through Plaid. We receive limited account information from Plaid; we do not see or store your online banking password.
• Location: precise device location, used only while the app is in use, to verify delivery drop-offs and optimize driver routes.
• Photos: images you capture as delivery proof or documentation.
• Work data: shifts, time clock entries, tasks, deliveries, and related activity.

How we use information

• Process customer orders and payments, and deliver meals.
• Send delivery text messages to customers who opted in, as described above.
• Operate the business: scheduling, meal preparation, onboarding, and payroll.
• Verify deliveries and navigate routes (location and photos).
• Pay employees and meet tax, wage, and recordkeeping obligations (SSN, bank details).

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

How information is shared

We share information only with service providers that help us run the business, under agreements that protect your data:

• Supabase — secure database and authentication.
• Stripe — customer payment processing.
• Twilio — transmits delivery text messages on our behalf to customers who opted in.
• Plaid — bank connection for employee direct deposit.
• Expo / Apple / Google — staff app delivery and push notifications.

All of the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, safety, and property.

Data security

Information is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored on secured infrastructure. Social Security Numbers are encrypted. Access is limited to authorized personnel who need it.

Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as needed to run the business and to meet legal, tax, and employment recordkeeping requirements, then delete or de-identify it.

Your choices & rights

• You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, subject to legal recordkeeping requirements.
• Employees can disable location and camera permissions in device settings; some app features will not work without them.

Children

Our services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
