The Simple Spoon
Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how The Simple Spoon (The Simple Spoon LLC, “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and protects personal information through our services — including The Simple Spoon Team, our internal mobile app for staff, and thesimplespoon.com, our customer website.
The Simple Spoon Team app is an internal, staff-only application. It is not intended for the general public. Employees use it to manage schedules, deliveries, onboarding, pay, and business operations. Access requires an account we create for a current staff member.
Information we collect
From employees (via the app and onboarding):
- Contact & identity: name, email, phone number, home address, date of birth, emergency contact.
- Tax & payroll: Social Security Number and tax filing details, provided during onboarding to meet legal payroll and tax requirements.
- Financial (direct deposit): bank account details for payroll, collected securely through Plaid. We receive limited account information from Plaid; we do not see or store your online banking password.
- Location: precise device location, used only while the app is in use, to verify delivery drop-offs and optimize driver routes.
- Photos: images you capture as delivery proof or documentation.
- Work data: shifts, time clock entries, tasks, deliveries, and related activity.
From customers (via the website): name, contact details including mobile phone number, delivery address, dietary preferences and allergies, order history, whether you consented to delivery text messages and when, and payment information processed by Stripe (we do not store full card numbers).
How we use information
- Operate the business: scheduling, deliveries, meal preparation, onboarding, and payroll.
- Verify deliveries and navigate routes (location and photos).
- Pay employees and meet tax, wage, and recordkeeping obligations (SSN, bank details).
- Process customer orders and payments.
- Send service-related notifications.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
How information is shared
We share information only with service providers that help us run the business, under agreements that protect your data:
- Supabase — secure database and authentication.
- Plaid — bank connection for direct deposit.
- Stripe — customer payment processing.
- Expo / Apple / Google — app delivery and push notifications.
- Twilio — transmits delivery text messages on our behalf to customers who opted in.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, safety, and property.
Delivery text messages (SMS)
If you opt in at checkout, we send you a text message on your delivery day letting you know your order is on the way, with an estimated arrival time. This is a transactional delivery-notification program. We do not send marketing or promotional text messages through it.
- Consent is optional. The opt-in checkbox at signup is unchecked by default, and you can order and receive meals without it.
- Message frequency: about one message per scheduled delivery — for most customers, roughly one message per week. You receive no messages in weeks you have no delivery.
- Message and data rates may apply. Those rates are set by your mobile carrier, not by us.
- To stop: reply
STOP to any message to end all delivery texts. Reply HELP for help, or email hello@thesimplespoon.com.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
We do not share or sell mobile phone numbers, or SMS consent, to any third party or affiliate for their own marketing purposes. Your mobile number is used only to send the delivery notifications described above. We share it only with Twilio, the messaging provider that transmits the message for us, and with the driver assigned to your delivery.
Data security
Information is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored on secured infrastructure. Social Security Numbers are encrypted. Access is limited to authorized personnel who need it.
Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as needed to run the business and to meet legal, tax, and employment recordkeeping requirements, then delete or de-identify it.
Your choices & rights
- You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, subject to legal recordkeeping requirements.
- Employees can disable location and camera permissions in device settings; some app features will not work without them.
- To make a request or ask a question, contact us at the address below.
Children
Our services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
